Thank God For Memphis

Sorry, flash is not available.

Submitted for Songfight Monday, August 20th 2007.

Suzanne and I stopped at Memphis, TN on the way home from New Orleans years ago one lazy summer afternoon. We didn't spend much time, but I was determined to pay respects to Sun Studios, so we took a walk down the dusty highway from the city center.

Hans Gruber 'Album Cover' top Google Image

Sweet! My picture of Hans Gruber is at the top of Google's search results for 'Hans Gruber'. I threw it together for my music-making alter ego on songfight.org

The artist currently known as Prince is giving away his new album

And of course, the music retailers cry "Foul"! More evidence of an industry in it's death-throws.

Jack Horner, creative and joint managing director for Frukt, a music-marketing agency, said that while "people like (Prince) play a key part in helping figure out what the models may be in the music business of tomorrow, by giving away a whole album on the front of a newspaper, there is a very clear devaluing of music, which is not a positive message to send out right now."

Original mix submitted for the Memorial Day Fight 2006.

Working some power-chord sliding on the guitar. Sounds like something from the 90's...Teenage Fanclub, perhaps? I came in second place! Not bad...but there's no prize for second ;)

Missed the deadline January 28, 2006 Songfight

This was my best Songfight submission to date, but I missed the deadline like an idiot. It was done in time, but I thought it was due at 10PM...not 10AM...duh

What's In It For Me

Sorry, flash is not available.

Submitted for Songfight due June 13, 2005

This was my fourth songfight, and the first with my guitar and new recording software. I had a blast recording it, even though I was cluelessly plucking around on the frets trying to make sense of such a strange instrument. I did some strong accompaniment in Reason to try to make up for other inadequacies (Like the god-awful singing). Sounds like the Dead on quaaludes. I tied for second place with two other songs...close fight!

Re-recording of original for Songfight May 2, 2005

I've decided to revisit some of my earlier songs to try to clean them up and build them out. This is a work in progress, and still has some samples from the original - which I'm trying to replace with my own playing.

11 song Songfight Albums

This past week, Songfight posted 11 titles instead of the usual two or three. They also lifted the restriction of only 1 title submission per artist. Several folks submitted a number of titles, which in itself is a great accomplishment, but a few submitted for all 11 titles: Hostess Mostess, UDAH, and Paco Del Stinko. I'm really impressed. I don't think the intention was for the songs to be played together, but I was curious, and created playlists for each (attached to this post).
